Happy mothers worry over their toddler’s digestive health

PETALING JAYA: Mothers with children aged 18 months to four years are generally concerned with their child’s digestive health, said an online survey.

The survey, commissioned by global healthcare company Abbott, found that 43% of 1,610 participating mothers were either extremely, or very concerned, about this issue.

More than a third of them are actively looking for solutions to address it. The mothers interviewed were from Malaysia, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, with 304 of them from Malaysia alone.
Across the six countries surveyed, nearly 75% of children aged 18 months to four years had experienced a digestive health issue in the past six months, namely, constipation, diarrhoea and stomach discomfort.

According to Abbott, these results added to findings from an earlier survey in 2012 which revealed that 84% of mothers with young children complained of feeding issues, leading them to switch baby formula.

Abbott Nutrition Malaysia’s medical director Dr Shaalani Ramachandran said a healthy digestive system early in life is important to one’s growth.

“All the nutrients and energy required for a child’s growth and development is provided by the gastrointestinal tract.

Lupus - Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (SLE )
